Week 52: Coming Up on My Year Mark!

Hey Family and Friends,

Something I forgot to say in my last email is, while Sister Alverson and I were riding to Harrison with the members who drove us we found out that both of us were in the same Mission Prep class at BYU Idaho! Isn’t that crazy? We remembered each others faces but didn’t put it together until we were companions. So that was pretty cool!

This week we were still meeting a lot of people and it was kinda a weird week. We had exchanges on Tuesday, District meeting and a funeral on Wednesday, Weekly Planning on Thursday and a Sisters Conference on Friday. And all of those things took a lot of time out of our week. We still met a lot of people but it was kinda hectic and we are excited that this week is going to be normal.

We have met a lot of Part Member families this week. It has been so cool to see how people are prepared. Everyone here is so nice and immediately let us into their homes. That’s a rare thing when contacting less active members. But this town is special! We have started teaching a couple of less active member’s husbands who we think are ready.

I have been out for almost a year! I can’t even believe it!! This has been the greatest year of my life. I am so happy to be here. I am so grateful for the experiences that I have had and the people that I have met. It has been a roller coaster! The best roller coaster in the World!! President Shumway always says that the Oklahoma Tulsa Mission is better than Disney Land!!! It’s so true! πŸ™‚

I love you and miss ya’ll!

Hurrah for Israel

Week 51: Mixed Up Transfer Calls

Hey family and friends,

This week has been really crazy! πŸ™‚ But so much fun!

So I got a call on Tuesday from the Assistants and they told me that they got the transfer calls mixed up for some reason. They said that Sister Bastian wasn’t going to be my companion and that my new companion was actually Sister Alverson. It was really weird. They don’t do that very often.

So the beginning of the week was really busy with saying goodbye to everyone and getting everything ready for the elders to come in. We actually got everything done in time. Then on Thursday we left at 7:45 to the transfer point! Sister Palmer got on the transfer loop and I had to wait with the other missionaries for Sister Alverson. Then we got into Harrison at around 4. So it was sort of a long day.

Sister Alverson has been out a transfer longer than me. So she’s been out for a year and a month. She’s mostly served in cities in the mission which is completely opposite from the towns I’ve served in. She’s from Idaho. She’s lived in Shelly, Idaho and now her family lives in Pocatello! She also lived in Washington for a while too. And she’s 5’10” The tallest companion I’ve had. It’s nice to have a companion who’s my height.

The past couple days we have just been meeting a whole bunch of people. Yesterday was our first Sunday in church and the ward is Awesome! There are about 50 or 60 people who come to church regularly. Which is pretty small since Harrison is a pretty big town. It’s so much larger than any of the areas I’ve served in. We met with the Ward Mission Leader the first night here and he’s from England! He’s super cool. And we met with the Bishop and met his family. They are super awesome. We spent 2 hours talking about the ward and the people he wants us to work with. There are TONS of part member families here so it will be really neat to work with them.

We met a super cute lady named Lavitia with a little boy who just moved into the ward. She has been less active for 14 years and she wants to come back to church. She asked us to teach her all the lessons again and see her twice a week. She’s super spunky and really excited about coming back to church.

Also there’s a part member family we are going to start working with who want to go to the temple. The wife’s name is Mona and she’s had some really cool spiritual experiences and she really wants to go to the temple! She just needs to keep smoking and come back to church. And her husband wants to get baptized too. We are super excited for them.

That’s about it for this week! We are really excited to be here cause there’s tons of potential here and lots of work to do!! πŸ™‚

Hurrah for Israel!

Love, Sister Moon

Week 50: Harrison, Arkansas!

Hey Family and Friends,

Sister Palmer and I are both getting transferred. I am going to Harrison, Arkansas with Sister Bastian. Sister Palmer is going to Tahlequah, Oklahoma with Sister Bailey! Before I forget…My new address is: 2110 Cypress No. 2 Harrison, Arkansas 72601

We went to the Kansas City Temple with Sarah on Saturday!! It was soooo good!!

I don’t have very much time today to email

Cool things that happened this week are that we went to the temple! We found a less active who moved without telling anyone where she had moved to. We were sitting in the car trying to figure out who to go see after our appointment cancelled, and I looked up and saw her driving down the street. So…. we followed her… haha she pulled into her apartment complex and we got out and started talking to her. Then she let us in and we talked to her about an activity that we are having at the church tonight and she’s going to come. We are super excited about that.

We had a dinner appointment scheduled for a family who has a less active daughter who has been pretty hostile against the church for a while. That day she called us up and said that she was cooking dinner for us and that she wanted us to share a message about prayer. It was so awesome!!! We have been praying for her as a companionship and as a Branch Council for a couple months and it’s amazing how much more open she is. She also sang in church a couple weeks ago. It was awesome. So we shared a mormon message called The Hope Of God’s Light with her. https://www.lds.org/media-library/video/2014-07-006-the-hope-of-gods-light?lang=eng It’s the best video EVER!!! We love it so much and watch it every Monday and with tons of people. Ya’ll have to watch it!!

I love and miss ya’ll!!!’

Hurrah for Israel!

Week 49: An Almost Baptism

Dear Family and Friends,

This week has kinda been a weird week. We didn’t get to see most of our usual investigators because they are either out of town or something came up. But It was still a good week regardless of canceled plans.

First of all. Amber had a date set for her baptism this Sunday. Then she got her divorce finalized this week, which took almost 3 years! So she and Junior are going to get married on March 13 so she decided that she wants to get baptized on the same day. So we are sad she’s not getting baptized this week but we are excited that they will be married before she’s baptized!

The weather has been really warm this week. It has been so nice to have a break from the bitter cold. We were able to take off our coats all day on Tuesday and we had 2 outside lessons! It was the best! πŸ™‚ I love and miss outdoor lessons.

A while ago we were contacting people we didn’t know on the ward list and we knocked on a guys door and this other man came and said that guy had moved. So we keep seeing him outside his house now, and he’s super nice and always waves at us. So the day it was really warm we decided to stop and talk to him while he was outside. So we pulled up, got out of the car and just started talking to him. He’s super nice and has talked to the Elders before. It was really neat because most things he talked about are pretty in line with the gospel. But he doesn’t believe in going to church. He’s a super nice guy.

Sarah is doing well! We are starting on the new member lessons and we are going to the Temple with her on Saturday!! We are so excited! I haven’t been to the temple since May, I think. And another recent convert is going with us too!

Yesterday at church was kinda insane. We were on splits during church because of the ward and the branch overlapping meetings and just the different things that were going on that day. Ward council and branch council. I taught the Laurels lesson and Mission Prep too. So it was a long day of teaching at church. Usually Sunday’s are our days to relax at church and let others do the teaching for a while. Which is nice. But not yesterday. haha It was really good though. We have a great group of youth! They remind me of the home ward’s youth. Super tight knit. It’s awesome!

Today we had our Zone Training Meeting. It was the best! The zone leaders made a really funny video about obedience. And some of the sisters instructed and they had two caramel apples in bowls. Then they asked two of the elders to come and see how big of a bite they could take. One of them was actually an apple and one was an onion. So they talked about having positive attitudes and how we can be apples not onions. It was super funny!

That’s about it for this week!

Hurrah for Israel!
